March 14, 2013 Advisory Board Minutes


Present: Denise Osborne, Tom Ammeter, Bill Thomas, Lonnie Baxley, Jean King, Mike Johnston, Jeffrey Knotts, Eric King, Amy Schwartz, Alan Yountz, Anne Hice, Harold Garrett, Chuck Meyer, Lora Routh (guest) Alan Branson, David Michaels, Alan Ferguson (guest)

Minutes from Feb. meeting were taken by Dan Rogers & will be submitted later.

Treasurers Report:  Balance $1820.16

Old Business:

                Programs: Sheriff Barnes will speak in May. We may try to coordinate with a new jail tour also. June may have a picnic at the new park on Lee St. Extension. Any ideas for programs/speakers please let Jeffrey or Aaron know.

                Membership Report: Kathy Dudich is now an Advisory Board member. Lynwood Lakes representative (Levine) have not attended in awhile and contact will be made to see if there is someone there who may like to attend. Levine and Tom McKinney will not be advisory members for 2013. 19 members have not paid dues yet.

                Priorities for Organization:  A list of topics for this group to focus on was handed out and members were asked to rank according to their interest and willingness to be involved. The numbers will be tallied to determine how we may proceed forward. The Winn Dixie was discussed briefly and the county is getting involved in trying to get it cleaned up including the planning, health and legal departments- per Alan Branson.

                Website Discussion:  Lonnie & Marty to meet to tweak updates. Eric King may get involved.

                Solar Farm Appeal:  Jayme Williams is appealing the Solar Farm approval for her neighborhood/area. She has asked for support from our group at the County Commissioners meeting on Thurs. March 21st. She has met with Sunlight Partners. Good article in Rhino Times on Solar Farms.

                Jazz Night:  April 12th at Forest Oaks Country Club. Tickets $15 per person includes spaghetti, salad, dessert and drink. Doors open at 6:30, dinner at 7:00. Each person asked to sell at least 6 tickets. Article will be in SE Lifestyles in April.  Need to be our own clean up staff at the club that night.

                Hagan Stone Park:  New brochure. They have a new website too where you can reserve shelters, and campground spaces.

                Lonnie mentioned a program called Future for Kids.  It connects professionals with kids who share an interest.

                Lora Routh attended to promote a Casino Night at the Moose Club on March 23rd, which is a fundraiser for the SE Athletic Boosters.

                Alan Ferguson was in attendance to discuss the Megasite planned for 421 South, just into Randolph County.  Their website is
